Creative Commons

From time to time, educators and students will see Creative Commons on a website or image. What exactly is Creative Commons and how is it used in education?

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that helps people “share their knowledge and creativity with the world. “Creative Commons develops, supports, and stewards legal and technical infrastructure that maximizes digital creativity, sharing, and innovation.”

On the about us page, Creative Commons provides free, easy-to-use copyright licenses. However, this is alongside copyright and not an alternative to copyright.
